The Tri-Star process is a simple, unique and exciting way to purchase your next vehicle.. In just a few steps, you too can be on your way to saving time and money the Tri-Star way.
First, a prospective customer contacts us to express interest in the process. This initial discussion typically revolves around the type of vehicle(s) the customer desires. A desired budget is also established. Then, we access data from recent auctions to get a general idea of the wholesale cost of the vehicle. At this point we can determine if the budget is realistic for the desired vehicle. If so, we move to the next step. If not, we determine what vehicles are realistic for the budget and then move to the next step.
Once the target vehicle(s) have been identified we enter the criteria into a system that works in conjunction with the dealer auctions. The criteria can range from fairly basic to very detailed. Keep in mind that the more specific the criteria the more likely the search will take longer. Once a vehicle matching the criteria is entered into the auction system an email alert is sent to Tri-Star. We then look over the information to determine if the vehicle is one that might suit our customer. If so, we forward that information to the customer for their consideration. Because we maintain high standards, we typically pass on four or five vehicles for each one we deem worthy of passing along to the customer. Once the customer reviews the information they decide if the vehicle is one they want to pursue or not. If so, we move to the next step. If not, we continue the search.
Once we have targeted a specific vehicle that the customer wants to pursue we set a top dollar price. That is the highest amount that the customer is willing to pay at auction for that vehicle. Keep in mind that we don't set prices, the wholesale market does. We often see vehicles go for both a lot more and a lot less than anticipated. In an auction setting there simply is no way to know until the vehicle actually goes through. We will bid on the vehicle up to the highest dollar amount agreed upon and not one dollar more. If we have the highest bid, we get it. If not, we pass on it and move to the next one where the process begins again.
The Tri-Star process is not for everyone. It requires a combination of patience and quick decision making. It takes patience to find the right vehicle. This process does not take a day or two, it usually takes a week or two. It also requires quick decision making because once a vehicle is found we typically only have a day or two to decide to go after it or not. Once the auction runs, that vehicle is gone and we have to wait until the next weekly auction cycle.
